The "Boot and Shoe
Factory" had remained empty and derelict for 10 years when a Toronto
development company purchased it for conversion to rental housing. The
property is in the downtown core of Waterloo and is within walking distance,
or a short bus ride, from the campuses of the University of Waterloo and
Wilfred Laurier University.
Due to the demand for student rental accommodation, the 24 units are designed
with a total of 105 bedrooms. Each multi-bedroom apartment has common
facilities to serve student needs.
The project began construction in January, 2002 and was completed in August,
2002.
